Collection of Parchments – Royal and notarial documents on parchment, dated between the 11th and 19th centuries and originally from the administrative offices of monasteries and convents. This collection includes the BNP’s oldest document, which is a letter recording a donation by Vivili Ermiges and her daughters to the Santo Estêvão de Vilela Monastery, which is dated 4 December 1010.

The Archive of the Casa Pombal
– Documentation on the assets and finances of the Casa Pombal, which came from the Pombal Palace in Oeiras. It was donated to the BNL by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 1993. We are currently in the process of organising this archive.

The Almada e Lencastre Basto Archive –
Documentation concerning the material affairs of the Casa de Souto de El-Rei and the Casa da Feira, and papers related to the public functions and private affairs of various members of the Almada e Lencastre Basto family, dating from the 15th to the 19th centuries. Of particular interest are a number of letters from Marshal Beresford and a copybook that belonged to General Junot. This collection was acquired from the family’s heirs in 1974.

The Andrade Corvo Archive
– Documentation on the assets and personal and professional affairs of various members of the Andrade Corvo family, between the 16th and 19th centuries. The documents concerning João de Andrade Corvo (1824-1890) are especially significant.

The Tarouca Archive
– Private, personal, official and business documents concerning the Counts of Tarouca, Marquises of Penalva, Marquises of Alegrete and Counts of Vilar Maior between the 14th and 19th centuries. Of special interest is the documentation in relation to the diplomatic work of João Gomes da Silva, Fourth Count of Tarouca (1671-1738). Acquired from the heirs of the Twelfth Count of Tarouca in 1971.

The Jorge de Moser Collection
– The personal archive of Jorge de Moser (1906-1971) and his family, with documents ranging from the 14th to the 20th centuries. They include documentation in relation to a number of leading figures, such as the Viscount de Balsemão and José Bernardo da Silva Cabral, among others. The archive also includes library documents, codices and individual manuscripts on Genealogy and Heraldry, and was donated to the National Library in 1971.
